Book Placement Start with the larger books to set the stage and act as a foundation for the rest of your styling, Books should be placed both vertically and horizontally to create more interest. Horizontally placed books can also act as pedestals for small, sculptural pieces or photos. Incorporate Art & Sculpture Now that you have a library collection and your books are set, it is time to make things interesting. Beautiful art and sculpture have been creatively integrated. They help to add interest, and can fill in any gaps you may have. Consider putting art on top of books and beside them to act like bookstands. Also, consider using art/sculpture that will fully fill in a gap left by the books. When choosing art think out- side of the box. Small sketches or paintings can either be placed on the shelves or hung from the front of the bookcase itself to give it a great, layered feel. Try a bold frame in gold or black. Another option may be to try a mirror, this will serve two purposes: to add style to your bookshelf and assist in making the room appear larger. 3. 5. 6. 4. Groupings Group smaller items to give them more presence – A single piece of pottery might not have much impact but, when grouped together with some of it's 'friends' can suddenly make a real statement. Organize By Color Organize by color – This is a fun way to eas- ily add big impact to your shelves. Using craft paper or wrapping paper to re-cover books is a great way to get just the accent color you desire. 3 6
