Use baskets
and bins
For items that need to be
stored in your bookcase
but that aren't exactly nice
to look at, using pretty
bins and baskets is the
way to go. They can take a
shelf that would otherwise
be cluttered and make it
look organized and color-
ful. For children's items be
sure to place those bins
on an easy to reach shelf
(the bottom most likely).
Let your personality
shine through
Include family photos, pieces picked up on vacations and items
that have special meaning for you. Layers these items to the
front of the bookshelf so that they are easy to see.

Include natural
elements
Small plants, flowers, shells or
pieces of driftwood to add life to
the space.
Know when to stop!
To keep shelves from looking crammed and cluttered,
be sure to step back every few minutes and do a little
editing. Not every square inch needs to (or should) be
filled. Breathing room is good!
Keep It Tidy!
Tidy. Symmetrical. Crisp. and Artistic. Take
note how all of the bookshelves featured
are TIDY. The books are up and down and
tight, and they are placed symmetrically.
A place for everything and everything in
its place.
