Style it Up with IKEA Hacks Y ou may love the spare, simple Scandinavian lines of IKEA furniture---or you may crave something more elaborate, creative, or unique. If you're in the latter group but you're sticking to your budget (good for you!), try an IKEA hack. Not all hacks require you to own a drill and safety glasses . If you can wield a paintbrush and point a hot glue gun, you can execute an IKEA hack or two. Here are some do-able fun ideas for all skill levels and tastes. Not-So Handy PAINT A RUG. A plain rug gets geometric with either a Sharpie or regular paint for an easy and not-cheesy-at- all hack. For your home office, COVER PLAIN HEAT BOARDS with fabric using hot glue to create corkboards in any style or color you like. If you fancy yourself a sort of chef, why not cook with home- grown fresh herbs? Try this INDOOR PLANTER that takes up zero space, and will provide you with abundant herbs year round. With some paint, a curtain rod, buckets, and some S-hooks, you will be able to assemble this easy, gorgeous window herb garden. You don't even need a windowsill. Kind-of Handy CHARGING STATION. Glue small wood boxes together for a charging station to keep your iPhone, iPad, and headphones organized. Add a splash of paint in your favorite color to complement your own decor. UPSCALE ABODE FOR FIDO! Paint a doll bed into a pet bed with distressed chalk paint, then add appliqués and change up the fabric. Your kitty or tiny pup won't know you didn't pay hundreds of dollars. Uber Handy DESK LAMPS become a spider-like chandelier in the weirdest IKEA hack we found. You'll need a jigsaw and a drill, but you'll have a bright, low-cost statement piece when you look upward. TURN A BOOKSHELF into a working arcade game and step back into your teen years. Time-consuming for sure, but you get to keep a video game in your living room without looking like you live in a frat house. Finally, stepping up to go to bed just seems, well, wealthy somehow. NEED MORE STORAGE? Of course! Try building this IKEA storage bed hack and you also get tons of drawers. For supplies visit IKEA Seattle, 601 SW 41st St., Renton, just off Highway 167. Lunch counter, covered parking, and play area for kids available.
