Don't over crowd. It may be tempting with dozens of seedlings and starts to get into the fresh turned soil, and it's often tempt- ing since the plants are so tiny—but don't do it! These little guy need space! It's best to plant tomatoes at least 18 inches apart in a big, long row. They need sun, they need air, and you want to be able to reach the TIP 3: give tomatoes some room Tip 3: plants so you can prune out those bottom leaves. You also need to be able to find the fruit when it's ripe. One tip is to plant tomatoes so that they grow up rather than out. Planting the plants against fence posts and train them with twine. In the end—there are no gardening mistakes, only gardening experiments, but utilizing some tips along the way couldn't hurt.
