Burke Gilman Trail
Since 1978, when the trail
opened, the Burke-Gilman
has been the spine of cycling
infrastructure, inspiring
people to hop on bikes and
bolstering nearby businesses
and real estate. Cycling
the Burke-Gilman Trail is
an excellent way to savor
sea-bound, lake-dappled
Seattle and its luscious parks.
Although you can jump on this well known
trail at many different points, one of those
happen to be from the aforementioned Gas
Works Park.
Spanning nearly 20 miles the Burke Gilman
Trail welcomes joggers, bicyclists, dog
walkers, and those just out for a leisurely
stroll. The Burke, as locals call it, is not only
a feast for the eyes but also for the nose.
As you meander through the city you'll
likely get a whiff of the evergreen trees, a
tinge of fish-tainted salty air or whatever is
sizzling in the neighborhood cafe's skillet.
In the thick of things, you'll rub elbows with
other people venturing on the same street
corners, benches, parks and trails.
The Burke-Gilman Trail runs from
Shilshole Bay in the City of Seattle to
the City of Bothell where it intersects the
Sammamish River Trail. Part of the "Locks
to Lakes Corridor," the BGT is a paved,
off-road facility over its entire length with
the exception of an on-road segment in
Ballard. The trail crosses Ballard, Fremont,
Wallingford, the University District and View
Ridge within the City of Seattle, as well as
the cities of Lake Forest Park, Kenmore and
Bothell.
A wonderful way to spend the day and take
in the sights, smells and tastes of Seattle.
