Pioneer Park Sprawling across an 113 acre forest Pioneer Park which contains 6.6 miles of trails. The Park has been kept in a natural state so that Island residents can easily get out in the woods through the course of their daily lives. Pioneer Park is divided into quadrants. The northwest quadrant is fairly level, with lovely trails meandering through the woods. A horse trail runs along the eastern edge of the park. The northeast quadrant has some hills, and has access to Lake Washington. The southeast quadrant is somewhat hilly, and all trails are open to horses. The southwest quadrant has a stable and retail stores. Trails are appropriate for all skill levels. Clarke Beach Located at the south east end of Mercer Island Clarke Beach and is home to the annual polar bear swim on New Year's Day. This park has less amenities than the beaches at Luther Burbank but while it lacks a playground and sandy beach it does offer a picnic area and BBQ areas, docks and restrooms (open in the summer). Note that there are no lifeguards on duty at this beach. Also: Aubrey Davis Park Groveland Beach Deane's Children Park (Dragon Park) If you are interested in joining a club on Mercer Island, both the private Mercerwood Shore Club and the Mercer Island Beach Club are waterfront clubs on the east side of the island that have large sandy beaches and swimming areas. Both clubs have waiting lists, so contact them directly for tours and more information if you are interested in joining.
