GOOF residents can also enjoy casually cool eateries like
Shepherd Park Draught House. With its thick red velvet
curtains and brick walls adorned with classic rock and roll
/ NY punk memorabilia, this is further proof that the cool
factor has indeed pole-vaulted over the North Loop.
Despite the trappings of a New York punk venue, Shepherd
Park Draught House is all Houston. They offer suds on tap
from Karbach, St. Arnold's and Leprechaun Cider just to
name a few, and at least one of the tv's is always tuned
to the latest Astros/Rockets game. Burgers are the norm
here, try The Bandera Burger which
involves onions two-ways, cheddar,
jalapenos and bbq sauce.
And the cool foodie factor has pole-vaulted
over the North Loop as well. Check out Plonk,
a laid-back wine bar that boasts a chef-
created, seasonal food menu, patio dining,
live music events and wine tastings. Or if
dive-y gastropubs are more your thing Petrol
Station has you covered with expected fare
such as massive burgers (try the Rancor for a
bacon, egg, burger combo) and a few surprise
offerings like the crab grilled cheese with garlic
parmesan fries. Several vegan dishes make an
appearance on the menu as well such as the
Kale Caesar and Soba Summer Salad. Good
selection of seasonal craft beer, patio dining
and they are open late for you night owls.
