P eople have been creating terrariums for decades, typically in square glass containers the size of small aquariums. But in the past few years, there seems to be a multitude of fantastic glass containers available, as well as endless Pinterest boards and a few how-to books on the subject. So, what's the appeal? Perhaps it is the playful nature of combining vintage items in a contemporary setting or maybe people are just so darn busy these days that their green thumb has turned gray. Either way, this trend does not seem to be fading away. Get creative with your terrarium - the right environment makes these little worlds low-maintenance, and they are perfect for those who don't have much, if any, space to garden. There are two ways to go here - the 3 minute terrarium or the 20 minute terrarium, either way these plants will add a splash of color to your home or office and often act as a conversation starter. Note to self - these simple plants make great hostess gifts as well. Three minute air plant terrarium. Adopt a hardy specimen air plant which will absorb nutrients and moisture through its leaves. There's no soil, which means no mess. Choose a modern glass hanging terrarium and a single plant, so you can easily add small shells or pieces of beach wood to get that organic look. Simply spray your air plant with a water atomizer once a week and place in a bright, sunny spot. Viola! Presto! You're done! Twenty minute succulent terrarium. Lots of choices here from plants to containers, but still very simple to construct and care for. TERRIFIC TERRARIUMS
