Storytime Programs, Family Nature Classes, Summer Camps, and an outdoor year-round nature preschool are all perks of this amazing space. But CUH is mostly known for its incredible gardens, including a Soest Herbaceous Display Garden and Seattle Garden Club's Fragrance Garden. Soest offers a fantastic learning opportunity for those new to gardening and was created to help local gardeners select the right plants for specific light, warmth, soil type, and other conditions. The Fragrance Garden inspires visitors with delicious scents all year long: winter means daphne and camelia, spring features narcissus and hyacinths, summer delights with hosta and gardenia, and fall offers actaea racemosa. As the seasons change, CUH offers guided tours, or a map allows garden lovers to guide themselves. For more space to stroll and explore, head over to Union Bay Natural Area. Seventy-four acres and four miles of shoreline await, including the Yesler Swap Trail. The UW and others work to preserve the area for people, animals, plants, and birds, making what was once a dumping ground a protected habitat. Join a volunteer work party or just relax and enjoy the area year-round. These area's are well known for some of the best spots for bird-watching. You'll see several microhabitats here that offer shelter to some 200 species of birds. Discover migrating shore birds like sandpipers or green herons, American bitterns, peregrine falcons, and even barn owls and Lapland longspurs. These birds are unusually well-accustomed to people and allow for close viewing. L aurelhurst Beach Club is one of the main reasons that folks flock to Laurelhurst in the summer months. Incorporated in 1923 for the purpose of creating a beach club for residents this gated, private beach on the shores of Lake Washington offers a fun day in the Seattle sun. To gain entry residents must live in certain parameters (map) or make good friends with someone who does. Once you do its as if you have stepped into an elite club of summer time revelry. Sailing and swimming lessons are available in season as are picnic tables and access to WiFi. Summertime Fun Time
