Fa l l As the leaves begin to turn and you head out for back to school shopping for the kiddos, don't forget that your home needs a little TLC heading into the Fall season as well. Proper maintenance seasonally with ensure you get the most benefit (comfort and monetary) as the cooler temperatures prevail. Outdoor Tasks: A Clean gutters and downspouts. A Inspect roof and chimney for cracks and damage. A Rake leaves and shred to use as mulch or dispose of them based on local guidelines. A Close or install storm windows. A Remove hoses from spigots and drain and store indoors, coiled and flat. A Store outdoor furniture and cushions. Indoor Tasks: A Test smoke and carbon monoxide detec- tors when you set clocks back in the fall. A Check windows and doors for weather- tightness and install weather stripping where it's needed. A Have furnace professionally inspected. A Perform a quick rodent check. These little guys will also be needing a warm dry place this Fall - best if they do not take up residence in your attic or crawl space.
