THE waLRUs aND THE CaRPENTER If you were to try a new restaurant based on accolades alone The Walrus and the Carpenter would be at the top of the list for Seattle. Bon Appétit voted this charming eatery the third best new restaurant in the nation in 2011, Food and Wine included it in their best restaurant list for 2012, Seattle Magazine voted this one of the Best BaLLaRD sUNDaY FaRMERs MaRkET Known as the granddaddy of all Seattle Farmers Markets this is one you won't want to miss and luckily it is year round. Tucked between historic Gold-Rush era brownstones and quite a few better brunch spots in town, this is a great outing any time of the year. Local farmers, growers and artists display their wares at this mega market. Bring your own bags and your appetite (there is lots of free tasting). Late summer indulgences include sweet Akagit berries, ripe nectarines and homemade pies. You'll also sample Mt. Townsend cheeses and wines. Fresh flowers such as dahlias and orchids and hardy plants abound as are experts to educate you on their care. Enjoy live music and crafts for the kiddos. Parking can be evasive so plan accordingly. Restaurants in 2013, and the list goes on and on. Blending the elegance of France with the casual comfort of a local fishing pub this tiny spot (named for a Lewis Carroll short story), serves fresh local oysters such as Fanny Bay, Blue Pool and Samish Sweet as well as locally harvested mussels and clams. But don't just stop in for the newsworthy seafood - try the local cheeses as well as the fried brussel sprouts with chives. A full selection of wine, craft cocktails, and beer are also available. The Walrus and the Carpenter continues to impress the local neighborhood folk and foodies alike.
