Dealing with textured walls
Wallpapering directly over textured walls will result in some very unattractive,
bumpy wallpaper. The best way to smooth out your wall is by skimming it with a
joint compound. If done right, this step will fill in the all the unevenness in the
wall, creating a nice smooth surface your wallpaper can adhere too.

Try out samples before doing the entire wall
Peel-and-stick wallpaper can work on textured walls if the pattern is busy
enough and the paper thick enough. It's a good idea though to test your walls
and the specific paper you want to use before doing a complete installation
(you can order swatches and samples from most wallpaper companies). Peel-
and-stick wallpaper is expensive (and not the easiest thing to put up), so apply
a sample to your walls and allow it to stay for a few days before investing your
time and money. You will then see if skimming your textured walls is necessary
or if you can proceed without much prep to the actual install.
