S ince water makes up 71% of the earth, it's the most abundant of all the elements. Its associations include undulating shapes that will fill up every crevasse it touches; the color is black, as well as darker hues such as navy, brown, and charcoal. This darkness also resonates with a cold temperature; its season is winter. On the Ba- gua, it represents one's career or life path. It constitutes the seed that sits in the cold damp ground; and the baby in the womb of its mother. In WHAT IS THE FIVE ELEMENTS THEORY? Ancient China's sages recognized constant cycles of renovation and rejuvenation in the universe, based on their observations of nature. At first, these explanations used Yin and Yang reasoning, but later these expanded to use a theory called the Five Elements. Water, wood, fire, earth, and metal contain their own specific qualities and properties. As energy (or life) moves from one stage to another, the same changes occur to each of us, because we're all subject to the laws of nature. This movement holds true for every part of the earth, whether it's people moving from pre-birth to old age, the cycling of the seasons, to the life cycle of a plant (seed to death.) Let's first better understand each of these parts of the puzzle individually.
