the placement of the vents, the downstairs gets very cold while the upstairs is very hot. Not a great design there. BE SPECIFIC I opted for the paint upgrade. I really loved the calming gray (Agreeable Gray as it were) and I felt that the white doors and moulding would stand out more against gray walls. Be forewarned, everything will be gray—even the ceilings and not just gray but FLAT paint gray so that you can see every scratch or dog goober, every dirty hand print, every single thing. Get specific with the paint finish—you might think it's common sense that if someone pays for the upgraded paint they receive satin or maybe even an eggshell—my lesson here was don't assume. COULD HAVE, SHOULD HAVE I should have opted for a little more of a wow factor for the fireplace surround. I find my gray choice is a bit bland for the focal point in that room. I also should have gone for the option of having the wood accent under covered patio, seemed too extravagant at the time, but now getting quotes for that, it is going to be prohibitively expensive and I think it would have been a nice touch. When designing the guest bathroom downstairs I gave my mom the tiled showered floor (and it is beautiful), while I took the plastic. If I were to do it over again I would have given us both this luxury. GLAD I DID The frameless glass shower in the master bathroom gives the space a spa-like feel (unless of course you look at the bottom and see the plastic floor of the shower). I am glad I opted for that glass shower.
