Cleaning up before the next tenant— leave it as you found it to come in and do it correctly, so you then are spending MORE money on the clean as opposed to saving money. If you need cleaner referrals let me know, I am happy to share my resources with you. I see a lot of tenants hang beautiful artwork on the wall, which makes the house feel like a home, but keep in mind that you're responsible for filling all holes and making sure the paint matches when you remove the artwork. This can be tricky in that sometimes the patch and paint does not match the wall exactly due to the sun fading the wall color over time. If there are many of these patches (and depending on the size) we may need to have the entire wall repainted (again at the tenants cost). A good rule of thumb is that if you altered anything in the unit, it's your duty to restore it to the way it was when you first moved in. 5 When the time comes to move on from your rental unit, don't assume you can just hand over the keys and walk away. Many landlords expect tenants to clean up before they roll out—and if you don't, you could risk losing a big part of your security deposit. The specifics of your responsibilities should be outlined in your lease, but common expectations for outgoing tenants include cleaning the oven, sweeping the floors, having carpets cleaned professionally (you might be asked to show a receipt as proof), and repairing any damage to the walls. Best bet is to hire a professional house cleaning company who has experience in move-out cleanings. While you may be tempted to use a Groupon cleaning service, I have found that cleaners who do not specialize in move-out cleans do a very sub-par job. Then I have to hire cleaners
