food with international
influences by executive chef
Bobby Matos is executed
at the highest level in a
welcoming, beautiful space.
There is no better place to
find yourself during oyster
season than sitting around
the polished, gleaming
rotunda of the oyster
bar with its semicircular
counter enjoying an array
of impeccably opened
cold-water and Gulf Coast
oysters on the half shell.
If you are not there to join
the glam crowd, pull up
a seat in the main dining
room where windows frame
the sprawling branches of a
grand oak tree out front.
Benjy's
Owner Benjy Levit set the table, so
to speak, for Houston's plethora
of locally focused New American
restaurants when he opened his
first benjy's in Rice Village in 1995.
The restaurant feels as fresh as
ever, thanks to a chic dining room
with a breezy, modern Miami vibe
and creative cuisine. They note that
their food is sharable using stellar
ingredients and this is true. Get the
smoked asparagus with a poached
farm egg, mustard caviar and dill
yogurt, followed by a pillowy pizza
topped with grilled mushrooms and
raclette.
