There is no better place to find yourself during oyster season than sitting around the polished, gleaming rotunda of the oyster bar with its semicircular counter enjoying an array of impeccably opened cold-water and Gulf Coast oysters on the half shell. If you are not there to join the glam crowd, pull up a seat in the main dining room where windows frame the sprawling branches of a grand oak tree out front. Benjy's Owner Benjy Levit set the table, so to speak, for Houston's plethora of locally focused New American restaurants when he opened his first benjy's in Rice Village in 1995. The restaurant feels as fresh as ever, thanks to a chic dining room with a breezy, modern Miami vibe and creative cuisine. They note that their food is sharable using stellar ingredients and this is true. Get the smoked asparagus with a poached farm egg, mustard caviar and dill yogurt, followed by a pillowy pizza topped with grilled mushrooms and raclette.
