PATIO T hey say that August is like the 'Sunday of Summer' and I can certainly relate. Living in the Pacific Northwest we are so lucky to have the best summers around. Mild weather, long walks with four legged friends, cultivating outdoor spaces to enjoy for the season. It is sad to watch it slip away. The pots and garden hoses on store shelves make way for the backpacks and binders come August. I suppose the trick with summers (as with anything in life) is to enjoy them while they last. This summer was the first that I ventured into doing anything with my patio space. Staring at a grey empty space for another summer was going to be too depressing, so I did what I usually do and waited for the sales. Luckily, by the time summer finally graces us in Tehaleh most of the big box stores are clearing out their wares to make way for back to school items. I was able to score some deep discount finds at Target and then fill in with classic greenery. I found that layering different heights and sizes of pots was very useful in creating an interesting look and not just having the space appear to be one large pot of leaves. I also found that I did not have to buy all ceramic pots, there were plenty of attractive faux concrete containers and even some that were darker plastic but that complimented the others that I already had. I was going for that Boho look so the mix and matched worked well. The biggest challenge with the plants so far is that the puppies really like to snack on them. With just the two of us in the house I did not want to overwhelm the space and add
