I n our first summer issue we've packed a whole lotta seasonal fun onto these pages. We'll explore the great outdoors with road trips and unique tents, cabins and Air BnB finds. July is National Picnic Month, and August boasts a National S'mores Day, its a perfect combo! We'll also explore tips for keeping your four legged friends safe from sunburn and heatstroke. With summer weather upon us there is no better time to Nicki Callahan, Editor Highlands Maison Magazine take that evening stroll and sneak a peek at the glorious yards our neighbors have been cultivating - a sort of Neighborhood Yard Watch. I live across the street from Tom and Teresa, two of the best yard neighbors I could ask for. Tom is out in his front yard perfecting each bush and repositioning large decorative rocks most days. You might have seen Tom and Teresa's large 6 foot bear standing guard at the front, he's a friendly sort that changes accessories with the seasons. It's always fun to see what they come up with next; a pirate hat and eye patch near Halloween, an umbrella on drizzly days or a fishing pole with an aluminum shaped heart at the end of the line around Valentine's Day. I love that bear and I know he brings joy to all those who see him. What may not be as apparent to passerby's on evening strolls are backyards, patios and porches. In this issue we take a look at a backyard oasis that has been in the making for the past 6 years, a fun summertime porch and my own backyard patio thrown together with finds from Target sales and an eye toward timeless greenery. In this issue we'll also explore the building of a community with the ladies of Berkley Park. All this and much more! Welcome summer in Tehaleh! Nicki maison HIGHLANDS
