7. Add Life with Greenery Liven up your bookshelves with low- maintenance plants potted in chic containers. 9. Know When to Stop To keep shelves from looking crammed and cluttered, be sure to step back every few minutes and do a little editing. Not every square inch needs to (or should) be filled. Breathing room is good! 10. Keep It Tidy Tidy. Symmetrical. Crisp. and Artistic.Take note how all of the bookshelves featured are TIDY. The books are up and down and tight, and they are placed symmetrically. A place for everything and everything in its place. 8. Use Baskets & Bins For items that need to be stored in your bookcase but that aren't exactly nice to look at, using pretty bins and baskets is the way to go. They can take a shelf that would otherwise be clut- tered and make it look organized and colorful. For children's items be sure to place those bins on an easy to reach shelf (the bottom most likely).
