.3. Book Placement Start with the larger books to set the stage and act as a foundation for the rest of your styling, Books should be placed both vertically and horizontally to create more interest. Horizontally placed books can also act as pedestals for small, sculptural pieces or photos. 4. Incorporate Art & Sculpture Designers often look at shelf facades as an ex- tra surface for art. The key to doing this right is to choose a shelf that sits approximately four to five feet above the floor. You can place the art on the shelf and layer in front for a look that is polished and un-obstructive or fasten the art to the fascia using non-abrasive picture hanging strips. If hanging art in front, use the space behind it to hide objects you want to keep out of view. When choosing art think outside of the box. Small sketches or paint- ings in complimentary colors to your basic theme. Try a bold frame in gold or black. Consider putting art on top of books and beside them to act like bookstands. Also, consider using art/ sculpture that will fully fill in a gap left by the books. Another option may be to try a mirror, this will serve two purpos- es: to add style to your bookshelf and assist in making the room appear larger.
