Audra Mulkern wears many
hats, wife, mother, cook, writer and
photographer and one might say -
educator. Educating readers through her
book "Rooted In The Valley: The Art and
Color of The Snoqualmie Valley Farmers
Markets". This hardcover book is a feast
for the eyes, filled with vivid photos
documenting farmers and artisans
from the Carnation and Duvall farmers
markets, as well as essays, quotes, and
poetry by the farmers and artisans
themselves about why the farmers
market is so important to them.
Audra goes one step further with "The
Female Farmer Project" in which she
chronicles (through written word and
photograph) the rise of women working
in agriculture around the world. The
Female Farmer Project has garnered
international recognition, and has been
featured in Huffington Post, Modern
Farmer, grist and a number of magazines.
As a new mother in 1999, Audra wanted
to find a way to provide her children
with fresh, organic food. She joined CSA
(Community Supported Agriculture)
and began to visit farms and different
